RAF Wyton
RAF Wyton provides the principal home for Equipment Support (Air) (ES(Air), the air pillar of the DLO. The Station's active airfield has now re-opened and is the home of the University of London Air Squadron (ULAS) the Cambridge University Air Squadron (CUAS), and No 5 AEF.
The first sortie of WW2 took off from here as well as the first aircraft of the 1000 bomber raids on Germany. The legendary Pathfinder Force was formed here and Wyton aircraft took part in the last Bomber Command Raid on Germany.
While there is no longer any operational flying at RAF Wyton, Tutors of No 57 (R) Squadron, No 1 Elementary Flying Training School provide basic flying training for trainee pilots of the RAF and International Air Forces. The aircraft are also used by ULAS and CUAS to provide basic flying instruction and air experience to University Cadets, and by No 5 Air Experience Flight for air experience flying of the Air Training Corps Cadets.
Houghton & Wyton is approximately 4 miles away and is steeped in history - the village has one of the oldest working mills in the country and regularly sells the flour it produces. There are plenty of ramblers’ routes that start from the village.
